Open Source Direct-Connect client for Mac OS X

Searched the forums, the closest bug I could find was http://shakespeer.bzero.se/forum/viewtopic.php?id=59 which was apparently solved awhile back, so this may not even be related.
After being connected for a few minutes, I cannot form new outgoing or incoming connections. The log file (all 1272kb of it) is filled with messages like this one:
Mon 4 22:49:35 ***** [1100] (io_accept_connection_addr:287) accept failed: Too many open files *****
Mon 4 22:49:35 ***** [1100] (cc_accept_connection:631) assert failed: afd != -1 *****
Literally, they all apparently occured during the same second... it just goes on and on.
I routinely connect to 2 seperate hubs, but at the same time I lose incoming and outgoing connections, I can no longer connect to two hubs at once. I can connect to either one individually, but not both at the same time. This is the error I receive:
Failed to connect to hub 'some hub': Can't create socket: Too many open files
Once I lose inc/out connections, and if I'm connected to a hub, new files are no longer hashed. However, if I disconnect, hashing works, and I'm able to reconnect to either hub (though still not both at the same time) while hashing is in progress.
I share nearly 1TiB of data (across about 53,000 files), split up on 4 different hard drives (no RAID array... yet).
I run OS Xv10.4.9 with the latest security updates and Shakespeer 0.9.5.
CPU: PowerMac G5 (2x2.0GHz)
RAM: 2.5 GBs
If any more details are needed (or a copy of my log file or whatever), let me know and I'll try to help out as much as possible.

I am not sure I have the same problem, but I to get the message "Too many open files", when trying to connect to a second hub. his only happens in active mode and not in passive mode. The full error message is "Can't create socket: Too may files open".
This problem occured suddenly today and I am using version 0.9.5 on Mac OS X 10.4.10 already for some time now without any problems.
I hope that someone will come up with a solution?

Yes, it is the same problem. The log file gives the same:
Sun 12 19:01:58 ***** [233] (io_accept_connection_addr:287) accept failed: Too many open files *****
Sun 12 19:01:58 ***** [233] (cc_accept_connection:631) assert failed: afd != -1 *****

Sun 12 19:01:58 ***** [233] (io_accept_connection_addr:287) accept failed: Too many open files *****
Sun 12 19:01:58 ***** [233] (cc_accept_connection:631) assert failed: afd != -1 *****
and so on....
Strangly enough, it does not happen immediately after connectin with a hub. But after some time something triggers the error, see these parts of the log file:
Sun 12 20:24:19 [233] (io_connect_async:138) connecting to 194.106.196.163:4670...

Sun 12 20:24:57 ***** [233] (cc_accept_connection:631) assert failed: afd != -1 *****
And then it never stops........

Got SP running again as it did before. How? Restoring permissions did not work and also emptying caches did not.
Then I did just run the original disk image again. I did not remove any preference files, databases, nor the app, nothing. And now it looks again OK.
Puzzled what was the problem.

So, what do I do? This problem doesn't seem to be solved. I'm only using one hub, ever.
Thu 3 10:56:24 ***** [2226] (cc_connect:678) failed to connect to client '......': Can't create socket: Too many open files *****
i'm using 0.9.11
OS 10.4.11
